Scams can be committed against people or businesses. The scammer or criminal's approach may be using other people, a business and often the computer. It's hard to know if you're being scammed, but there are a few clues.
Legitimate businesses and government entities don't call and harass consumers for money. They don't ask for you to wire transfer money, buy gift cards, make copies and send them to the person or business and they won't request payment be made in cryptocurrency.

This scam occurs when a criminal uses fake information, creates an online profile on a dating or social media website. The use the romantic approach hopeing to get their victim emotionally attached. The end goal is to manipulate the person into giving them money or property by stating the obvious:
"If you love me, you will help"
When your computer seems to be moving slowly, or not working properly and suddenly a representative calls stating they are a "Technology Support" person and can help...YOU should HANG UP!
OR
If you ever click a link and your computer brings up a screen that says there is a problem and a number to call...YOU should NOT DO IT!
An emotional event occurs when a grandchild calls asking for help and MONEY!
Resist the urge and don't give up anything until you have verified the story and person speaking to you.
This is a common phone call scam approach. The criminal pretends to be a loved one in trouble and needs money immediately.
